Introducing the Premium Tea Collection: A Journey Through Three Tea-Growing Regions of Shizuoka

A Cup That Connects You to the Land

Shizuoka Matcha Therapy is proud to introduce the Premium Tea Collection, a new series created to share the distinctive character of Japanese tea through its origin, producer, cultivar, craftsmanship, aroma, and flavor.

The collection launches on September 26, 2026, beginning with teas from three celebrated tea-growing regions of Shizuoka: Tenryu, Kawane, and Asahina.

Each region has its own landscape, climate, history, and tea-making culture. Yet these differences are often hidden behind the broad name “Shizuoka tea.”

The Premium Tea Collection invites you to discover those differences, one cup at a time.

Rather than offering tea leaves alone, we share the complete story behind each tea: where it was grown, who made it, how it was cultivated and processed, how it tastes, and how best to brew it.

Our hope is that every cup will feel like a quiet journey to the land and the people behind the tea.

The First Three Teas

Tenryu — Kaneta Ota Tea Farm

Kaneta Ota Tea Farm is located in the mountains of Tenryu, upstream along the Tenryu River in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.

Morning and evening mist, pure water, clean air, and significant differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures create favorable conditions for tea cultivation.

For the first release, we selected Tsuyuhikari, a lightly steamed sencha with a refreshing aroma, clear golden-green liquor, and a strong, satisfying umami character.

Tea type: Lightly Steamed Sencha
Cultivar: Tsuyuhikari
Net weight: 30g

Kawane — Tsuchiya Tea Farm

Tsuchiya Tea Farm is located in the Orokubo area of Kawanehoncho, approximately 600 meters above sea level.

Surrounded by mountain mist and steep natural terrain, the farm produces small quantities of diverse tea cultivars while preserving the knowledge and craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Our first selection from Kawane is Harumidori, a lightly steamed sencha known for its elegant aroma and clean, refined taste.

Tea type: Lightly Steamed Sencha
Cultivar: Harumidori
Net weight: 30g

Asahina — Ikeno Tea Farm

Asahina, located in Okabe, Fujieda, is recognized alongside Uji and Yame as one of Japan’s three leading gyokuro-producing regions.

Ikeno Tea Farm has a history of producing tea presented to the Imperial Family. It continues to preserve Asahina’s gyokuro tradition while expressing the natural character of the region.

Our first selection is Okumidori Gyokuro, carefully shade-grown to develop a rich umami taste, smooth mouthfeel, and fresh green aroma.

Tea type: Gyokuro
Cultivar: Okumidori
Net weight: 30g

Please note: References to awards or the history of each producer do not indicate that the specific products in this collection received those awards or were presented to the Imperial Family.

Pine, Vessel, and Moon: The Beauty of Quiet Space

The launch of the Premium Tea Collection is accompanied by renewed packaging inspired by three motifs: pine, vessel, and moon.

・Pine represents the enduring strength of nature and the passage of time.
・The vessel represents the simple, meaningful act of preparing and appreciating a cup of tea.
・The moon represents the cycles of daily life and the changing rhythms of the mind.

Through a restrained composition and generous use of empty space, the design expresses the quiet depth of Japanese tea and the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi.

The collection’s key visual was photographed with the cooperation of the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, Saitama, and features Seiryu, a bonsai pine from the museum’s collection.

Japanese tea and bonsai share a sensitivity to nature, time, and space. By bringing them together, the visual expresses a moment in which we pause, turn inward, and gently reconnect with ourselves.

Meet the Renewed AI Tea Counselor

Alongside the launch of the Premium Tea Collection, our AI-powered tea recommendation experience has been renewed as the AI Tea Counselor.

The AI Tea Counselor helps guests discover a Japanese tea based on their current mood, physical condition, lifestyle, flavor preferences, preferred time of day, and sensitivity to caffeine.

Instead of asking guests to choose only by tea name or category, the experience begins with a more personal question: What kind of tea feels right for you today?

Each recommendation introduces the tea’s origin, producer, characteristics, brewing method, and the best moment to enjoy it.

We are also developing two additional experiences:

AI Tea Coach — tea recommendations for active moments, exercise, and sports.

AI Tea Sommelier — Japanese tea pairings for food and dining experiences.

Together, these services reflect our belief that every person and every moment can have its own cup of tea.

A Quiet Cup. A Truer You.

The Premium Tea Collection will continue to grow beyond these first three origins.

We plan to introduce teas from additional farms and regions, exploring different cultivars, production methods, aromas, and flavors from across Shizuoka and, in the future, other parts of Japan.

The collection will be available through our online store, events, corporate gifting, hospitality partners, restaurants, wellness spaces, and selected international partners.

With every tea, we seek to create a deeper connection between the person drinking it and the land and people who made it possible.
